Factors that can influence the  that laptop battery life – battery life did not meet expectations

When we are using notebook computers, some factors that make the battery wear and tear, and even may lead to the maximum use of time lower  than standard batteries, but it does not mean that these factors may damage the battery.

There are many kind of  batteries such as Sony VGP-BPS8 battery,Inspiron E1505 battery,Dell  6400 battery, DELL XPS M1730 battery , their life are affected by many factors.
The factors that affect battery life are:

Factor 1: the processor speed – Right operation  to install Intel chipset drivers make systematic use of Intel Speed step technology for processor speed adjustment, which will extend the application system battery life.

Factor 2: CD, DVD, CD-RW and hard drive frequency reading – trying to directly copy the CD files to your hard drive to operate (including copy, delete, and run an application, etc.) will improve the battery life.

Factor 3: the total number of memory and memory – if the system opens a lot of applications will take up a lot of hard disk space to do file-swapping (virtual memory), resulting in frequent hard disk read and write, then the more memory on the right battery use time more useful.

Factor 4: Some applications to run automatically in the background, it will increase the CPU load, resulting in reduced use of time – usually recommended when using some of the background programs that run off, only to run the necessary applications.
Factor 5: LCD’s brightness – the lower the brightness settings for battery use a long as possible, you can use to use FN + key or under the direction of brightness adjustment keys.

Factor 6: Power Management and Speed Step settings – in the power management settings of different power scheme will affect battery life.

Factors 7: battery life – the average battery life is one year, with the use of time and frequency increases, the gradual reduction in battery usage time is normal.

Factors 8: For the processor and system equipment deeper applications (such as watching DVD movies and 3D games) will make the time available to quickly lower the battery.

Factors 9: wireless devices and Bluetooth devices will accelerate battery consumption; do not need wireless, you can use FN + F2 turn off to save power.

Factors 10: use of environmental temperature – too high or too low, the use of ambient temperature will affect battery core activity of chemical substances, thus reducing the battery usage time and life.

Similarly, the battery life also depends on different system configurations. Take Inspiron6000 examples:

Configuration 1: Pentium M 730, 15.4 “WXGA, 512MB, 64MB ATI x300, 30GB, DVD-ROM / CD-RW, 6-cell battery
Can be 3.5 hours (maximum battery time in the 3:37 to 3:50 hours)

Configuration 2: Pentium M 730, 15.4 “WXGA, 512MB, 128MB ATI x300, 30GB, DVD-ROM / CD-RW, 9-cell battery
Available at 5:21 hours (maximum battery time, 5:13 to 5:21 hours)

Configuration 3: Pentium M 730, 15.4 “WXGA, 512MB, 64MB Intel UMA, 30GB, DVD-ROM / CD-RW, 6-cell battery
Available at 3:55 hours (maximum battery time, 3:42 to 3:55 hours)

Configuration 4: Pentium M 730, 15.4 “WXGA, 512MB, 128MB Intel UMA, 30GB, DVD-ROM / CD-RW, 9-cell battery
Available at 5:40 hours (the longest battery time, 5:32 to 5:40 hours)

Configuration 1 and 2 is mainly directed against an independent graphics system (different memory), for 6-cell and 9 cell battery usage.

Configuration 3 and 4 is the system integrated graphics (Intel chipset integrated graphics), for 6-cell and 9 cell battery usage.

Comparison shows that 9-cell battery roughly 6-cell battery than the increase of nearly 30% of usage time.

Similarly, by comparing cross-* (1 and 3, 2 and 4), using the same capacity battery, stand-alone graphics card because the application of additional memory and display chip, the battery will cause the loss of a small magnitude. (5-20 minutes or so)
