Issue one: About activation of  new laptop batteries

View 1 : There will be 3 percent of electricity when we buy a new battery, don’t charge it until the battery’s remaining power is used up and shutdown.  Use an external charger to charge the new batteries after the remaining power is used up. Charging time must be more than 12 hours, repeated three times to do in order to activate the battery.

View 2: No need to charge new batteries for 10 hours to activate the battery, in accordance with the normal charge-discharge-activated manner.

Proposed method: I agree with the second point of view, according to available data indicate that activation of the battery should be completed in the factory, the new battery is charged a little electricity in order to avoid damage to the battery from natural wear and tear. Batteries should be activated at the circumstances without protection circuit, the circuit itself can be a lithium battery protection circuit, this circuit is designed in order to avoid over-charging and discharging, general battery after full charge when the indicator goes out , batteries would not be charged.  Notebook manufacturers propose that a new battery should be charge for more than 10 hours. This may make some users have had the wrong point of view first, the author of this opinion is that notebook makers should take into account some new users have not fully grasp the charging skills, simply so that purpose them to charge 10 hours, so this should be the business of expediency.(unfinished)

Standby time of a laptop battery

It’s no doubt that the standby time of laptop battery is one of the topics which the vast number of notebook computer owners are the most concerned. Well, here let’s talk about something about laptop battery’s standby time.

The capacity of laptop batteries and other rechargeable batteries is maeked as xxxx mAh on the surface of batteries. Such as 3000 mAh, that the battery pack 3000 milliamperes of electricity, if the battery-powered equipment (notebook computers) need to work on average current of 1 Amp, or 1000mA, this battery can work about three hours, if equipment, the average operating current is 2 amps, the battery can work about 1.5 hours. (This ignores the depletion of the battery itself)

Many clients often ask us some question about “laptop battery’s standby time “. Actually, this is a question very difficult to answer accurately, as previously described: the working hours of battery is desided by the output current of laptop. It means, big output current, short working hours. In general, different brands, different models, different output current. When running diferent programs or different working methods, such as reading and writing hard disk, floppy disk, CD-ROM in time, the bright LCD screen extent, resulting in the operating current is not the same. The most important thing is how to define “standby”, it seems there is no clear definition, we can not explain to you clear that does it mean running operating system without other programs ? Or shut down to protect the screen?

It’s significative at a certain degree to test different batteries by using the same laptop, working in the same manner, but this is not the only measure of battery performance indicators.

This is a successful experience to revive a dead dell inspiron 1300 battery of a Laptop user. But,  before  I proceed I just want to lay down some disclaimers below:

  1. If your laptop is still under warranty, then by all means get the battery replaced!
  2. There’s no guarantee that this tip will work with your laptop battery. If you have the money and there’s still available stock for your notebook battery, then just buy a replacement one unless you are a cheapskate.
  3. I won’t be held responsible for any damages or injuries resulting from following this tip. You have been warned!

Now that the above has been made clear, this is the tip: freeze the battery! Yup, that’s the point. However, here’s the proper way to do it in easy. Read steps below:

  1. Remove the battery from the laptop
  2. Wrap the battery with old newspaper, making sure that it envelops the battery tightly
  3. Repeat step 2 above with at least three pieces of large sheet newspaper (if you’re using tabloid sized newspaper, then use at least five pieces)
  4. Place the wrapped battery in the freezer compartment of your refrigerator
  5. Let it stay in that cryogenic state for three to seven days

Once your battery has been given the frozen treatment, do not directly plug it into your notebook! Let the battery thaw to normal room temperature within the newspaper wrapping by leaving it in the open for at least half a day (overnight is recommended).

Tear off the newspaper wrapping and touch the battery. Does it feel cool to the touch? If so, then leave it at room temperature for a few more hours. Once it feels just about room temperature, take a piece of tissue and wipe the contact points of the battery just in case there’s some traces of moisture there.

Once this is done, plug it in your notebook computer, plug in the power adapter and leave your notebook in “charging” state. Do not power on the notebook!

Give your battery time to fully charge (this depends on your notebook/battery model). Once you’re 100% confident that the battery is fully charged, say your prayers, cross your fingers and power on your notebook. If all goes well, your battery should be working just fine.

Although I won’t promise that this notebook battery revival method will work for your particular notebook model, it has yet to fail me on a HP, Compaq, Dell and an old IBM ThinkPad… why not just give it a try, what have you got to lose?
